How to Boost Your Immune System

We hope you’re all enjoying fall!  The November Newsletter is focused on your Immune System and the things you can do to boost it naturally, with each season change your immune system also changes and we want you to be prepared! We also will be focusing on some New and Unique gifts we just got in to let you give gifts that can also improve health.
 

What is it: The immune system is the body’s defense against infectious organisms and other invaders. The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body.

Facts: About the Immune System

  • Each part of the immune system has a unique function.
  • Vaccines play an important role in educating your immune system.
  • Every day, we encounter billions of germs, but they’re not all bad.
  • Stress can affect the way your immune system works.
  • Positive emotions and a healthy lifestyle may boost your immunity.
  • Sleep deprivation can impact immunity.
  • Allergies are the result of your immune system reacting to a false alarm.
  • Your immune system can attack itself.
  • Women are more likely to be diagnosed with autoimmune diseases.
  • Being too clean can inhibit your immune system from functioning properly. 
How to Boost your Immune System!
Clean Start: Make sure that with every seasonal change you’re incorporating a gentle cleanse into your daily routine for a total of two weeks!  You change the oil in your car periodically so you always want to remember to clean your insides out as we are eating, breathing and touching toxins everyday so we need to clean them out as they are a root cause of most ailments.
Water: It is ALWAYS important that you are drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of purified water on a day to day basis. Do not drink out of plastic that is not Polycarbonate which the only safe one and will have a 5 or 7 in the triangle underneath the bottle.  Plastics leach toxins into the water weather you just drink, cook, or store doesn’t matter.  These toxins mimic estrogen like properties in our body so they make everything grow like: our weight, cysts, tumors, endometriosis, cancer, and so on.

Happy Fall.  The October Newsletter is focused on Breast Cancer, after all it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death among woman and has affected over 252,00 woman and over 2,000 men each year.  We also will be educating you on parasite cleansing, new products and a few special announcements!  Make sure you get out and take a walk in the fresh air everyday.

We are very proud to announce that Diane Halstead has joined our team here at LISA’S NATURAL PATH.  Diane is a wife, Mom, and a passionate health advocate.  She has been a licensed massage therapist since 1999, and loves helping people feel better.  She has been on her own health journey for the past several years, and loves learning new ways to naturally benefit our bodies.  She says she is so blessed to be working with Dr. Lisa and having the opportunity to learn and help others in even more ways.  Diane will be working alongside Dr. Lisa and is now taking appointments for Ear Candling and is training to do the (N.A.E.T.) What is it: Cancer is a broad term for a class of diseases characterized by abnormal cells that grow and invade  healthy cells in the body.  Breast cancer starts in the cells of the breast as a group of cancer cells that can then invade surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to other areas of the body.

Facts: About Breast Cancer in the United States

  • One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
  • On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and 1 woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes.
  • Usually caused by too much Estrogen in the body as it feeds the cancer
  • Another cause can be using aluminum based, chemical anti-perspirants
  • Cancer of any kind only lives in an acidic pH and an Iodine deficient body so make sure if you have cancer or know someone that does they schedule an appointment with Dr. Lisa so she can test their pH levels, Iodine deficiency and give nutritional counseling as you can not just cut, burn and poison it out, you must change the internal environment in the body so you do not get it back.

The September Newsletter is focused on Essential Oils! There’s an old saying, “the nose knows,” a statement that acknowledges how intimately your brain is connected with your sense of smell. Actually, out of all of your senses, smell has the more direct connection to your brain. Read on to learn more, about the holistic approach to using Essential Oils!
Essential Oils

What they are: A natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or other source from which it is extracted. Smelling an essential oil can affect your mental outlook and emotional mood faster than anything you can ingest orally. So, if experiencing irritability, anxiety, grief, brain, fog, mental fatigue or other mental or emotional imbalances, essential oils or “aromatherapy” can be a fast and effective solution.

Essential oils can help solve many physical health problems, however they are uniquely able to aid in mental and emotional ones. They have the ability to:

  • increase mental alertness
  • improve concentration
  • reduce anxiety
  • lift depression
  • ease sadness
  • uplift the heart
  • promote better sleep

How they work: Volatile chemicals released by plants and animals and the environment mix with the air, enter the nose and come on contact with the olfactory epithelium, which encases about 20 million nerve endings with receptors for these volatile substances. Once the chemicals attach to the nerve endings, a signal is sent to the olfactory bulb. The olfactory nerve then transmits the messages from the olfactory bulb into the limbic system of the brain. The limbic system is responsible for creating positive and negative feelings, has a switching station that when stimulated releases various neurotransmitters, and is also associated with memory.

 
   Contraindications    

  • DO NOT ingest. Pure  Essential Oils are very strong and all you need to do is dilute and put on the skin or inhale.   Many people have told us that someone told them they could put essential oils in water and drink.  This is FALSE and very dangerous!!!  That would be like putting Water on a Grease fire it just spreads it.  In the case of Essential oils it puts them into the cells too fast.
  • DO NOT buy synthetic, ONLY authentic, pure Essential oils are the best.
  • DO NOT USE IF pregnant, nursing or on babies younger than 2 years of age unless directed by your Naturopath Doctor.
  • ALWAYS dilute with a carrier oil or a blend which we prefer

Wow it’s August already and this months Newsletter is focused on Back to school & Vaccines. Vaccines are a highly controversial topic! In the end vaccines aren’t such a “hot shot”, and there is plenty you aren’t being told about what’s actually going into your body and what it’s doing.
Vaccines

What it is: a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease

Reasons to say “NO!”: 

  1. Pharmaceutical Companies Can’t Be Trusted (Ever)
    • Merck, the manufacturer of the MMR vaccine is currently embroiled in two lawsuits for falsifying data on the effectiveness of the mumps vaccine.
  2. ALL Vaccines are Loaded with Chemicals and Heavy Metals
    • recent vaccine testing results published in January 2017 revealed that ALL of them are contaminated with heavy metals not declared on the ingredients list or in the product leaflets.
  3. Vaccinated Children are the Unhealthiest, Most Chronically Sick Children
    • Vaccinated children are more chronically ill than unvaccinated children with rates for autism, ear infections, ADHD, asthma and allergies as much as 30% higher than unvaxed children
  4. Other Countries Are Waking Up to the Dangers of Vaccination
    • In 1975, Japan raised its minimum vax age to 2 years old,  The country’s infant mortality subsequently plummeted to such low levels that Japan now enjoys one of the lowest level in the Western world (#3 at last look).
  5. Numerous Vaccines Have Already Had Problems/Been Removed from the Market
    • In Feb 2002, GlaxoSmithKline removed the Lyme Disease vaccine from the market citing poor sales when in fact a number of people who received the vaccine reported symptoms worse than the disease itself such as incurable arthritis or neurological impairment.
  6. You Can Always Get Vaccinated, But You Can Never Undo a Vaccination

The Mediterranean Diet is an appropriate starting point for many people who are looking to improve their body composition. This diet consists of eating plenty of vegetables, beans or lentils and fruit. It is important that food is fresh and unprocessed! Fish, eggs and lean cuts of poultry should be eaten 3-4 times per week. It is not necessary to minimize your fat intake, however to replace the junk food you can eat nuts, seeds, avocado and olive oil. Lean red meats from pasteurized animals and/or game meat can be consumed in small amounts and if tolerated, cheese and yogurt from pastured cows can be consumed as well.

Healthy Summer Recipe: Grilled Veggie Taco Bowls 
A crispy-crunchy, amazingly flavourful, veggie-loaded taco bowl with all the fixins’. Serves 2.
Serves: 2 servings
Ingredients
Grilled Veggies

  • ⅔ cup zucchini, halved and sliced
  • ⅔ cup sliced bell peppers (red, green and yellow)
  • ¼ red onion, thin sliced
  • ⅔ cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 handful baby spinach, roughly chopped
  • ¼ tsp salt

Taco Rice & Beans

  • 1⅓ cups cooked brown rice
  • ⅔ cup black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 3 tbsp taco sauce

Toppings

  • 1 vine-ripened tomato, chopped
  • 1 handful baby spinach, roughly chopped
  • 2-4 tbsp guacamole
  • 2-4 tbsp salsa
  • 2+ handfuls of tortilla chips (use Flax Seed Chips for added benefits) 

More Optional Toppings

  • shredded cheese
  • fresh lime juice or wedges
  • extra taco sauce for drizzling
  • jalapeño, thin sliced
  • cilantro, chopped
  • salsa baked tofu


Instructions

  1. Combine cooked rice, rinsed black beans, and taco sauce in pot, heat until warmed all the way through
  2. Preheat grill or skillet (high heat). 
  3. Cook bell pepper, red onion, and zucchini for about 4 min. Add mushrooms, sprinkle with salt and cook for another 5-6 minutes or until veggies are tender. Add spinach and cook until just wilted.
  4. To serve: Scoop ¾ cup of rice and bean mixture into a bowl and add ½ of the grilled veggies. Top with a handful of fresh greens (lettuce or spinach), fresh chopped tomato, 2+ handfuls of crushed tortilla chips (optional), 1-2 tbsp of guacamole, and 1-2 tbsp of salsa. Add any optional topping you desire (fresh cilantro, cheese, fresh lime juice, salsa baked tofu, extra taco sauce, etc.)
